PhilliPhillips |
Here are my notes for the May 16, 2012 American Idol Show: Each contestant sang 3 songs. They all had their great moments during tonight's show. Joshua's best was his last song. I really enjoyed it and would give it a 9 on a 1-10 scale. He should be in the Final Two. Jessica's best was also the last one. She sang an early Michael Jackson tune and really did a great job. However, she is starting to weaken a bit. Her best score tonight: 8. Phillip's second and third songs were great. That mellower funky second tune would be fun to see in concert at the Fargo Theatre. His last song forced him to actually sing a real song with a real melody. It was amazing that he could sing like normal, even tho this is a singing competition. Best Score: 9.
First Place: Phillip Phillips.
Close Second Place: Joshua Ledet.
Third Place: Jessica Sanchez - a great singer but not quite enough to win.

Before the show started I told Reagan each person was going to sing three songs. He said, "That's awesome. Then Phillip can do two rockin' songs. 'Evey' if he does one slow song that's fine."
Side note: When Reagan's hair is wet he has been pushing both sides to the center and up so he looks like Colton! :)
That must have been so surreal for J, J & P when they went back to their home towns and all those people were freaking out over them. Phillip's homecoming got me a little emotional, especially when he got emotional.
Joshua
#1: (Etta James)...During the song Reagan said, "I think it's getting a little 'worser' but the beginning was fine." As for me, I liked the bluesy part but the screaming does not work for me. I wouldn't buy his CD because of that. If he'd calm down I think I might really like him.
#2: (Imagine -- I love this song)...I didn't like it as much as John Lennon but I'm glad he didn't scream as much. Nice job.
#3: (Mary J Blige)...I didn't like how much he bounced - he looked like he was doing aerobics. How can you groove to someone's screaming, even if it's on key? With all my negativity about Joshua, I do think he is very talented. He's just not for me.
Jessica
#1: (Mariah Carey)...The notes seemed too high and too low for her at times. Just OK.
#2: (Aerosmith -- so cool she sang this)...I really enjoyed it. Excellent.
#3: (Michael Jackson)...Agree that it was a great song choice. I loved it - beautiful. She doesn't make me want to groove as much as Phillip, but she definitely "moves me" more than Joshua.
Phillip
#1: (Mad something?)...Loved it -- so happy for him! His music makes me want to groove in my chair more than the other two. He's easy and enjoyable to listen to.
#2: (Matchbox 20)...When Phillip started singing, Reagan said, "That's a good song." It may be a good song but the performance was just OK for me. He always sings well and he's consistent, but unfortunately, I agreed with the judges. It's too bad, he got to pick the song and it just didn't get the excitement it could have had.
#3: (Bob Segar)...Mellow and very, very nice. This may be one of the only times he didn't "Phillip Phillps" a song and Randy called it his best performance...hmmm. Whatever, I'll take it! Scotty heard this one, and half way through the song said Phillip sounded awesome...and why doesn't he use that voice all the time?
This is my wish: Phillip/Jessica final!!!!
There is a Super Man Comic Series where there is the Super Man here and the Super Man in an alter-universe...I think that's where I was last night--everything the judges said were opposite of what I thought! The songs they thought were good, I thought were bad and vice-versa! Almost makes me think they secretly all want Josh to win and are doing everything in their power to see that happen. Which would be called a conspiracy theory, I guess...IdolGate.
Herb and I agree with Reagan's mom's comments that P.P. by far is the easiest to listen to and he would be our first choice of cd's to buy. Put it this way, Herb is pretty neutral on songs this year. But when PP comes on the volume goes up! And there even was a little bouncing in his seat. PP should win = his songs make Herb bounce.
Joshua and Jessica both great last night but it's PP who seems to have that star/concert quality already to me.

I think we're all on the Phillip Phillips wagon at this point! Reagan likes him and even Herb is bouncing to his tunes. :) Last night made me think that these 3 really are the best of the bunch and now it's just a matter of style.
Speaking of style, could PP be any cooler? I love his sexy/cool/artist vibe, and agree that his songs are the ones I'd want to listen to most. Thought his rendition of "Disease" was awesome, but didn't really like the Bob Seger song Jimmy picked for him. Still, it feels like they're finally letting him jump headfirst into his style of music and I love it. Hope he wins.
Jessica is sooooo good, but for some reason (maybe it's just her young age) she doesn't radiate the emotions like the other two. I thought "I'll Be There" was fantastic and she really hit some of Michael Jackson's high notes beautifully. BTW, did anyone else notice how SKINNY her arms are? They're crazy little twigs! She'll probably go far, but don't think she'll win this.
Joshua was really great last night. I have to say I love that he's such a sharp dresser and always in a killer suit. Thought "No More Drama" was outrageously good, but I agree with you Brenstar that it's just not my thing. I do agree with the judges that he's a great performer.
It was pretty moving seeing them all go back for their homecomings. It seems like all 3 of them are genuinely nice sweet people and that makes me happy, especially since so much of reality tv glamorizes such a bunch of spoiled bratty little snots. I liked watching how PP was with his dad, that seems like a really close father/son relationship. Also Joshua with his niece, cute.
I'm thinking the final may be Phillip and Joshua. I actually tried to vote for PP last night and all three of his numbers were busy for at least 15 minutes so I ran out of patience. I'd say that's a good sign, though.
Hey, tonight we get to hear Adam Lambert! Reagan's gonna like that...hopefully he'll be sporting his Colton hairdo for the big performance! I know Johnnny is praying that AL will do "Mad World", wouldn't that be sweet?
Joshua is gone. Our next American Idol Winner will either be: Jessica Sanchez or PhilliPhillips! What does Reagan think of that!? Johnnny iz voting 4 Phillip Phillip Phillips! Thanks for all the great comments. Many have been added to our Classic Comment Liberry. Keep them coming. Finale Next Week! What about that Adam Lambert?!
Johnnny: we got the results news from your posting just now (it's 3:40p here) and Reagan & I are freaking out! I feel like Phillip has a better chance against Jessica then Joshua, but I don't want to get my hopes up. We are for PhilliPhillips all the way!!
Kit: I agree with you that the three finalists all seem like good, young kids which is nice. I hope all three of them have successful music careers.
Remember, the performance show is on Tuesday next week instead of Wednesday!
